I think we’ve all experienced the regret of getting rid of an item too hastily and then realizing two years later it might have been a wardrobe essential and it will inevitably come back in style in a big way. Listen, I’m not advocating hoarding here by any means but over the years I have discovered there are certain items worth keeping for the long haul. I only thought it was fair to share my discovery and keep you from those familiar feelings of “I can’t believe I got rid of (insert regret here)”.
Alright first on the list is leopard print. Now, not all leopard prints are created equal but this print in a classic shape or seasonal item is a no brainer. This trend has a much quicker style cycle with it coming back every few years. Case in point: this fuzzy leopard jacket I have literally had for 10 years. I almost got rid of it a few times but something kept telling me it would be a mistake and here I am wearing it again 10 years later.
The next item you should never get rid of is a classic cut wool jacket. This is a piece that if well made, could work for 15 to 20 years in your wardrobe. Think about the Robe Coat. That cut and style has been floating around for ages and it always comes across as chic and put together. I mean look at these coats from the 50’s and tell me you wouldn’t die for one of them!
Ok now let’s talk accessories. Think about pieces that stand the test the time and classic accessories will likely top that list. Berets, silk scarves and gold jewelry can always be mixed into your wardrobe. I went through a serious beret phase in my early 20’s and ended up with 5 of them that have been sitting in storage since. Guess what’s back in a big way this season? I was so happy to find my perfect black wool beret up in my closet!
Are there any items you’ve kept for ages because they stand the test of time? I’d love to hear about them!
