I’ve become an avid Podcast listener (walking two dogs everyday made it a must) so I thought I would share my favorite podcasts at the moment. Be forewarned I am obsessed with anything even remotely related to True Crime so those will dominate this list (murderinos unite!)
This podcast is the perfect blend of humour and murder. Each week Karen and Georgia pick a murder story and discuss it. Now be warned there is some pretty messed up shit that comes up (ahem Albert Fish) but if you have any interest in True Crime and love badass women then you will be hooked immediately. They have also added a shorter episode each week where they read hometown stories from people who have emailed about their own personal hometown murders and creepy stories.
If you’re interested in True Crime but want to be spared the grisly stuff I suggest Criminal. This podcast is about all kinds of Crime and some of the stories are incredibly interesting. Some of my favorites include the origins of the phrase “420” and when the host visits a Body Farm where scientists study the science of how bodies decompose.
Essentially this one is the hosts watching a garbage movie and then mocking it endlessly. I have laughed out loud in public listening to this podcast too many times to count. It helps if you’ve seen the movie they are talking about (see: Con Air episode) but is hilarious regardless. Bonus: if you love Brooklyn Nine-Nine and are obsessed with Adrian Pimento, the actor who plays him is a host and his voice alone is worth listening to!
One of the first podcasts I discovered and I still listen to it weekly. Each episode is based on a spooky historical story. Everything from the Salem Witch Trials to Vampires and H.H. Holmes. The combination of history and creepy story telling have me hooked and since the episodes are quick, usually around 30 minutes, they are perfect for your commute or walking the dog.
This one I’m not going to describe because I feel like the less you know the better. This podcast is made by the same people as Serial (which you should definitely also check out) and it was not at all what I was expecting which I why I thought it was so good. It’s just a great story and since it’s only 7 episodes it’s an easy listen.
This is a Canadian produced podcast and each season deals with a different case. They are all unsolved cases and the host goes back to the towns and interviews friends, family members and witnesses and tries to uncover new evidence. It is so well done and so interesting to hear the stories unfold.
I hope you love these podcasts as much as I do and if you have any other recommendations I’d love to hear them!
