One of my favourite things about the holidays are the traditions we celebrate year after year. For my family most of those traditions involve food, which if you ask me is the best part of any holiday get together anyways.
Every Christmas Eve my mom cooks a massive dinner and we always have a few traditional Ukrainian dishes that have become staples at big family gatherings. Our newest tradition is a big family brunch at my place on Christmas Morning. I am obsessed with all things breakfast so its a win win for me!
This year I decided to try out a few new breakfast items and I knew I wanted to try a Dutch Baby Pancake. It’s essentially a pancake crepe hybrid and even though it looks complicated it’s actually really simple to make. I used this recipe and all you really need is a super hot oven and a cast iron skillet. Just make sure you don’t add the butter to the batter like I did the first time…
I made a simple cherry compote and then dusted the pancake with powdered sugar and served it with maple syrup. It was delicious and it also makes your house smell like freshly baked pastries so what’s not to love really?
What are your holiday traditions? I’d love to hear about them!
